Half a millennium after its reconstruction in 1567, Torre Quebrada continues to give its name to one of Benalmádena’s most distinctive neighbourhoods, nestled between the Mediterranean, the golf course and residential housing

Stretching along the coastline between Benalmádena and Fuengirola, where the shore runs alongside the Mediterranean and the landscape opens up towards the golf course and the mountains, Torrequebrada combines very distinct layers of history under a single name. Here, a 16th-century defensive tower, one of the Costa del Sol’s most established golf courses, and a residential neighbourhood with a fascinating market profile all exist side by side.
Torre Quebrada, of Nasrid origin (13th–14th centuries), formed part of the coastal surveillance system of the former Kingdom of Granada. Following various interventions and reconstructions, it was rebuilt in 1567—the version that has survived to the present day (along with subsequent conservation work)—giving its name to everything surrounding it: the residential development, the golf course, the casino and the hotel. Golf Torrequebrada opened in 1976, designed by José “Pepe” Gancedo, and in 1979 it hosted the 53rd edition of the Spanish Open, won by South African Dale Hayes. The Torrequebrada Casino also opened in 1979, followed in 1988 by the Hotel Torrequebrada, which until a few years ago was the municipality’s only five-star hotel.
Key facts: beachfront beaches and promenade · 18-hole golf course, opened in 1976 and host to the 1979 Spanish Open · 16th-century watchtower, listed as a Site of Cultural Interest · Málaga Airport approximately 20 minutes away by car under normal traffic conditions
A neighbourhood organised around golf and the beach
Torrequebrada features two focal points that rarely coexist in the same neighbourhood: the sea and the golf course. The beach sits on the front line, complete with a promenade, chiringuitos and seafood restaurants. Inland, the 18-hole course occupies an undulating terrain set among lakes and mature trees, offering views of the Mediterranean. Surrounding both, the neighbourhood boasts supermarkets, pharmacies, its own commercial centre, and a leisure scene historically linked to the casino and the five-star hotel.
“Torrequebrada is one of the few places in Benalmádena where you can have breakfast facing the sea and have an eighteen-hole golf course practically on your doorstep.”
The character of the area
The residential stock is diverse, featuring apartments, townhouses and villas from various eras, ranging from high-rise blocks by the beach to low-density properties surrounding the golf course. According to Idealista’s land registry data, a significant portion corresponds to buildings constructed between 2000 and 2010. An older beachfront apartment and a villa by the golf course do not command the same price, despite sharing the same neighbourhood. The atmosphere also shifts with the seasons: more tourist-oriented in summer near the beach, yet peaceful all year round by the golf course, where a car is usually necessary.
Pros: beachfront beaches and promenade · golf integrated into the neighbourhood · highly varied property selection, from apartments to villas · excellent connections to Fuengirola and Málaga · local amenities within the area.
Aspects to consider: a diverse area where values vary significantly depending on the micro-location · more isolated developments require a car · following a sharp year-on-year increase, the market appears to be entering a stabilisation phase over recent months.
Connectivity and market
Situated on the western edge of Benalmádena Costa, Torrequebrada provides easy access to Fuengirola and Carvajal, while connecting quickly via the A-7 to the rest of Benalmádena and Málaga. The Torremuelle commuter train station (Cercanías) is one of the closest rail links, although the distance varies depending on which part of the neighbourhood you are in. Golf Torrequebrada places Málaga Airport about 20 minutes away by car.
According to Idealista, Torrequebrada recorded an average asking price of 3,921 €/m2 in August 2026, representing a +7.9% year-on-year increase, following a 0.1% decrease over the month and 1.9% over the quarter, with a historic high of 4,060 €/m2 reached in March (-3.4% since then). It is no longer the second fastest-growing area: the leaders are Santangelo (+12.0%), Benalmádena Pueblo (+10.7%) and Arroyo de la Miel (+10.6%). The district’s average price is merely a reference point: views, distance to the sea and the condition of the property substantially alter the value of any specific home.
Torrequebrada suits those who want frontline beach living without giving up a golf course on their doorstep, as well as those who value having the promenade and neighbourhood social life within walking distance. Buying or selling here requires looking beyond the average price: exact location, views, the condition of the development and year of construction significantly influence the value.
